Yorgos Lanthimos was born in Greece. His sophomore film Dogtooth won the Un Certain Regard Prize at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language film. The Lobster won the Jury Prize at the 68th Cannes Film Festival and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The Killing of a Sacred Deer won Best Screenplay at the 70th Cannes Film Festival. The Favourite received a leading ten Academy Award nominations in 2019.
